Have You Been Discouraged from Getting Abortion Recovery Help?

Discouraged

Over the past five years, Sara was Jane’s closest friend and always told her everything. After Jane found out she was pregnant, Sara was the one who was there for her. She drove her to the clinic, sat with her through the options counseling, and talked with her about what to do. After Jane decided on abortion, Sara continued to be there for her, even though she didn’t agree with her decision.

Then, one week after the abortion, Jane called Sara in tears.  She told her about the fight she had with Ben, how he decided to end the relationship, and how she had been struggling emotionally from the abortion. Jane said,

“I just feel awful about the abortion. I don’t know what to do with my life, now. It feels so empty and hopeless. I’ve even been struggling with nightmares about my experience. I never thought my life would turn out this way. I don’t know what to do but, I’ve been thinking about getting help from an abortion recovery specialist.”

Sara said,

“Jane, I just don’t get it. YOU wanted the abortion, even after I mentioned it was probably a bad idea. You didn’t listen to me, but went along with what Ben wanted! Now, you think you need support for dealing with the abortion? That’s nuts!”

After hearing Sara’s response, Jane couldn’t believe it and was stunned. She never felt so alone and discouraged in her life. Jane thought about getting help but wasn’t so sure, now. She began to think she didn’t even deserve help.
